Slovenski Park
Cambridge Ontario

Slovenski Park, which comprises nine hectares in the Aberfoyle area near the junction of Highways 401 and 6, was purchased in the mid 1960's. At that time one third of the property was swamp land. With dedicated voluntary work by members of the Slovenski Park Association the swamp gave way to camping sites, a soccer field, a volleyball court, lawn bowling facilities, two swimming pools, and a fish pond. Over four thousand trees were planted to preserve and beautify the grounds.
Ten years ago the association constructed a chapel, where St. Gregory's priests of Hamilton celebrate Mass during Slovenian picnics. Five years later an Alpine style clubhouse was erected. In 1983 a walkathon was organized by the members to raise money for the Dom Lipa Etobicoke building fund. Slovenski Park is open year round and provides recreation for families from the Toronto, Hamilton, and Kitchener areas.
