The Slovenian Society
Oshawa Ontario
After the second World War a group of Slovenians found employment
at the General Motors plant in Oshawa, Ontario. There were few
organized activities for the immigrants until the Oshawa Slovenian
Society was established in February, 1972. The club now owns
land east of Oshawa, which is used for picnics and other outings
and where the members hope to build a hall in the near future.
Two annual social functions are held a New Year's Eve party
and a Mardi Gras celebration in February. The society has also
operated a Saturday school. There are approximately 125 members
at the present time.
