Vecerni Zvon / Evening Bell
Toronto Ontario
One of the oldest Slovenian clubs in the Toronto area is Vecerni
Zvon, which was founded in 1956. Most of the members came from
the Prekmurke region in Slovenia. The association's function
is the organization of social activities and the provision of
assistance to its members in times of illness or other difficulty.
Many dances and banquets were organized during the first twelve
years of operation.
In 1967 property was purchased north of Highway 9 between Orangeville
and Highway 400. A clubhouse, chapel, and swimming pool were
built on the grounds. Members and guests are also provided with
picnic, camping, and sports facilities. The most important annual
event is Proscenje, a traditional feast for the people of Prekmurke,
which takes place in August.
